Skills for school staff

All staff require particular skills to enable them to work in school (eg, looking after pupils), as well as specific sets of skills vital to carrying out their own roles (eg, school secretaries must be able to prepare letters on a computer).

This section sets out the different skills required by different groups of school staff.

Core skills

Core skills apply to all staff in schools.

Skills for administration staff

Staff working in administrative roles (eg, administrators, receptionists, PAs, library assistants or finance officers) need a specific set of skills to be able to do their jobs.

Skills for technician and site staff

Staff working as technicians (eg, science technicians) or site staff (eg, caretakers) need specific sets of skills to be able to do their jobs.

Skills for pupil support staff

Staff who work with pupils (eg, teaching assistants, cover supervisors, learning mentors) need a specific set of skills to be able to do their jobs.
