Bursars and school business managers can expand their knowledge and skills by taking the Certificate in School Business Management, if they have an NVQ Level 3 or 4, or another relevant professional or academic qualification, or a degree. It usually takes between six and 12 months.
Once they have the Certificate, they can move on to the Diploma, which can take between six and 12 months, with six residential days and three or four hours' study a week.
You can find out more about the Bursar Development Programme on the NCSL website.
Teaching assistants with a "significant level" of skills and knowledge can join the Higher Level Teaching Assistant programme to be trained and assessed against the HLTA Standards. The standards are also designed to offer people with the potential to work as teachers a smooth progression to Qualified Teacher Status.
You can find out more on the HLTA section of the TDA website.
