Linda: Teaching assistant

When I started work as a teaching assistant, the only formal qualifications I had were my GCSEs: the NVQ was the chance to get a piece of paper showing I’d reached a certain professional standard.

My story

I'm glad teaching assistants now have the chance to get on a professional footing: a lot of people still see us as coming in to wipe kids' noses and make sure they're writing on the paper not the desk, but we've really come a long way since then.
